Merian, Matthaus. Goa. A wonderful birds-eye town plan of Goa by the
noted Swiss engraver (Frankfurt, 1628). It also appeared in Gottfrieds Archontologia
(1649). There is a cartouche identifying 43 buildings and the plan includes the harbor
full of ships, a royal seal, a small compass rose, and even two elephants working on the
harbor. 14 x 11 inches. $375

very early view from Goa, partly a pleasant pastoral scene, partly an apparent scene of
